What Happens at The Talk KC?
Each session is more than just a meetup — it's a space for real conversations, growth, and connection. Held once a month, our sessions are designed to be impactful, consistent, and relevant to the lives of Black boys in Kansas City.
Session Structure
Warm meal and hangout time
Guest speaker, community panel or role play
Group discussion led by mentors
Literacy activity (reading, journaling, spoken word)
Incentives like barbershop vouchers/haircuts, books, or gear
Check-ins and hangout after the main session when time permits

Focus: Identity, family, brotherhood
Session 2: Pressure Points
Focus: Peer pressure, image, decision-making
Session 3: Words Matter
Focus: Literacy, voice, communication
Session 4: Mental Game
Focus: Mental health, emotions, empathy
Session 5: Money Talks
Focus: Financial literacy, career prep
Session 6: Love, Lust & Loyalty
Focus: Relationships, respect, boundaries
Session 7: Know Your Rights
Focus: Law enforcement, school rules, advocacy
Session 8: Boss Up
Focus: Leadership, discipline, AI literacy
Session 9: Legacy
Focus: Purpose, giving back
When We Meet
Frequency: One Monday per month (September–May)
Duration: 1 to 1.5 hours, plus optional hangout
Locations: Primarily barbershops but may include schools, churches, and community centers
